With a seating capacity of 17,500 people, the Aquatics Centre's spectacular wave-like roof is 160m long and up to 80m wide - giving it a longer single span than Heathrow Terminal 5. The venue features a 50m competition pool, a 25m competition diving pool, a 50m warm-up pool and a 'dry' warm-up area for divers.  High power discharge lamps (412 x 1kW floodlights and 123 x 400W floodlights, ) were used for their efficiency and high colour rendering.  It is due to re-open in Easter 2014 - minus wings - as part the park's rebranded South Plaza.
To commission the Aquatics Centre, normal access to the floodlights was not possible due to physical constraints. Typically 20 to 30 floodlights were commissioned each day and so to complete the installation, work had to take place while other trades were still active in the pool area. Special treatment were applied to the hardwire lighting control modules so as to protect them against chlorine and such chemicals that become airborne used within the pool areas. The lights are controlled in different stepped switching modes so that the levels can be greatly reduced when no filming is underway. 363 HW LCMs 103 sensors DALI dimming in all seating and circulation areas.
