Simmtronic inside the JJ Mack Building

December 14, 2022

Jess Costanzo, Tom Frenzel and Abdus Salam from our Specification team attended PlaceTech’s Inside JJ Mack Event to see Simmtronic’s smart lighting control system in action in Ashby Capital & Helical’s latest smart building.

Tom Smithers, Property Director at Ashby Capital, addressed the audience ahead of the panel, stating that the core philosophy behind the JJ Mack Building was being smart by design. Throughout the discussion, Pavlos Clifton (Helical plc), Tom, Katie Murphy (Smart Spaces) and Dan Drogman (Smart Spaces) discussed the challenges and successes of the development, highlighting the importance of excellent building service providers.

“It can often be a bit of a lottery with building services, some resist the direction that the technology is going, and don’t want to engage with the MSI/Smart Building Integration Package.”

On that note, a big thank you to Dan Drogman for recognising the Simmtronic team as being at the forefront of both technology and engagement when it comes to smart buildings: “When I know Simmtronic are on one of our projects, I can breathe a sigh of relief – I know everything will work”

Smart Spaces demonstrated their seamless integration with the Simmtronic system at the JJ Mack Building, 33 Charterhouse Street, to a host of industry experts and professionals. Guests were given the opportunity to interact with this deployment for themselves, with the Smart Spaces interactive display allowing them to experience first hand how dynamic and instantaneous a lighting controls integration can be. The Smart Space OS can fully integrate with the Simmtronic Smart Building suite of products, allowing real time control of lighting on an individual luminaire, group, floor or site wide basis.

Guests were also offered a tour of the site with hosts, exploring the deployment a wide range of smart building technologies from lighting controls to lift systems (Kone), all integrated via open protocols and APIs with the Smart Space OS.
Simmtronic were contracted by SES, who did a fantastic job of the installation. The M&E design was developed by Long & Partners. The Lighting Design was developed by EQ2Light. The site was designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands.

Tom Frenzel, our Senior Specification Engineer thoughts on this project:

“Having been involved in this project with L&P Group from Stage 3, it was great to finally see the fruits of everyone’s hard work become a reality – something I rarely get to see. Additionally, as the development has now been dubbed ‘the smartest building in London’ it was a great opportunity for Simmtronic to showcase our latest smart solutions to the Developer (Ashby Capital) and the excellent working relationship we have with Smart Spaces.

Through the use of our BMS Integration software package, offering both BACnet and MQTT (Native), we were able to work seamlessly with the Smart Spaces platform to create an effortless and exciting experience for the end user.”

A huge congratulations to Ashby Capital, Helical plc and Smart Spaces – JJ Mack will be a truly outstanding place to work!

Thank you Simmtronic, for your professional, fast and reactive support with the delivery of these projects.

Simmtronic have delivered a large number of technically challenging projects for DBS and consistently continued to provide outstanding service. Their support, guidance and help throughout the process has been exceptional, working closely with our design teams to ensure the right solution for the project and a sound understanding of the brief, with our delivery teams to ensure the installation and commissioning are trouble free and then providing fantastic after care to the customer. They have added true engineered value into the projects they have been involved in for Derry Building Services.

Over the years I have really appreciated the Simmtronic ability to provide responsive support and listening to projects and clients needs. More recently the Simmtronic team has shown the capability to embrace the connectivity requirements of the Internet of Things by quickly adding MQTT to their range of integration protocols. This will greatly facilitate telemetry applications in buildings and the development of interconnected solutions that will make buildings more usable and easier to operate.

Landsec have consistently used Simmtronic Lighting Control Systems across our new London developments for over 15 years. Simmtronic understand our requirements and get involved at the very early stages of schemes, assisting consultants in achieving the optimum design solution, often taking the lead.  They always overcome the programme challenges they are faced with on site, delivering a quality, fully tested and operational solution, on time and to budget. Simmtronic undertake the maintenance and servicing across much of our London portfolio, they have a customer focused and flexible approach that suits the needs of our business and as well as our customers.

LandSec

Simmtronic as an organisation has been, for the last 18 years, by far the best performing and most reliable lighting control system I use. From design through to commissioning and soft landings with the landlord teams Simmtronic always deliver on my projects. Simmtronic technology evolution is not just pushed through like others, but rather properly tested internally first, giving us as client teams the assurance that what Simmtronic say they can offer is 100% delivered, an absolute must with fast track major projects.

Simmtronic has constantly been available at an early stage to engage both with the designers and the Contracting team to assist with design solutions and to test options. This ultimately assists us in de-risking the project during the commissioning phase which usually defines when the project is completed. Simmtronic is seen as ‘industry standard’ and it is always encouraging to see them involved.
